Horizon Europe – the new framework programme for research and innovation of the European Union for the period 2021-2027- has brought many new features compared to the previous Programme: Horizon 2020. Probably, the most ambitious novelty is the EU Missions.
What are the EU missions?
Missions are a new strategy of the European Commission to support R&D&I and provide solutions to key social and economic challenges in areas of interest to the EU and its citizens. They consist of a series of interdisciplinary actions -that include research and innovation projects, as well as policy measures and legislative initiatives- aligned together to achieve specific objectives with a high social and environmental impact.
“(…) A mission is a new and innovative tool – a new way to work together within Horizon Europe. They are also an original concept in EU policy. (…)”
