The first off-grid water desalination system 100% powered by renewable energies

W2W

Project Description

How can drinking water be sustainably provided in a cost-effective way where there is limited or no access to energy, but seawater is an abundant resource?

W2W is the first and only system that produces drinking water from seawater, brackish water or polluted water sources, off-grid, with cutting-edge technology 100% powered by renewable energies (wind & solar). To date, no desalination system is fully adapted to the fluctuations in output from wind and solar energy.

  • W2W works as a fully stand-alone solution: it does not require batteries for electricity storage,
    grid-connection or a back-up energy source.
  • W2W can be rapidly deployable in remote areas (installed in 14 days), dismantled and moved to
another location once the disaster is solved (if needed). Minimal operation costs & maintenance.
  • Water islocally supplied, avoiding transportation costs and with a zero-carbon footprint technology.

RAINMAKER, a Dutch SME focused on developing sustainable and decentralized water purification technologies to produce clean water, will carry out the project.
